Diferencia entre "hasta que" y "hasta"

¿Me pudieras explicar la diferencia entre "hasta que" y "hasta"?

"Hasta" se usa con sustantivos o verbos sin conjugar. "Hasta que" se usa con verbos conjugados; cuando hay una idea de futuro, se usa con el subjuntivo:

- Nadamos hasta la otra orilla del río.
We swam to the other bank of the river.

- Nadamos hasta alcanzar la otra orilla del río.
- Nadamos hasta que alcanzamos la otra orilla del río.
We swam until we reached the other bank of the river.

- Corrieron hasta quedar exhaustos.
- Corrieron hasta que quedaron exhaustos.
They ran until they were exhausted.

- Estuve insistiendo hasta que me hicieron caso.
I was insisting until they listened to me.

- No te vas a sentir mejor hasta que dejes de fumar.
You won't feel better until you stop smoking.

- Hoy vamos a trabajar hasta la noche.
- Hoy vamos a trabajar hasta el anochecer.
- Hoy vamos a trabajar hasta que anochezca.
Today we will work until the night falls.

- Hoy vamos a trabajar hasta terminar.
- Hoy vamos a trabajar hasta que terminemos.
Today we will work until we finish.
