Ha vivido muchos años en el extranjero. He has been living abroad for many years. The 3 machine translations from SpanishDict give: Ha estado viviendo en el extranjero durante muchos años. I realize the machine translation is more literal. Wouldn't "Ha vivido" be "He lived" not "He has been living"? Is "durante muchos años" a common way to say "for many years" or "for a long time" Thanks, Bob Ritter, Pensacola, FL, USA

La traducción correcta de "He has been living abroad for many years" es "(Él) ha estado viviendo en el extranjero durante muchos años".
He lived = (Él) vivió/vivía He has lived = (Él) ha vivido He has been living = (Él) ha estado viviendo La distición entre "ha vivido" y "ha estado viviendo" es la misma hallada en inglés con "he has lived" y "he has been living". "Durante" es la traducción más conveniente para "for" cuando se refiere a la duración de un acontecimiento. Ejemplo: durante dos días = for two days. En Latinoamérica se tiende a emplear "por" con este significado, es correcto hacerlo; pero en el español europeo resulta más frecuente utilizar "durante". Un saludo cordial.

Así que yo vivi en Mexico durante 2 años y yo vivi en Mexico por 2 años son iquales. Bueno.
La traducción: Ha vivido muchos años en el extranjero. He has been living abroad for many years. es un poco incorrecto.
