I want to ask what is your opinions/thoughts about x


¿(A ti) qué te parece sobre x ?

if I want to make it clear who I'm talking about

A John qué le parece sobre x?

What does John think about x topic?

Is this right

Someone suggested that I could also express the same thing by saying:

¿Qué opina Juan sobre X?

why is there no te in that sentence.I don't understand why the pronouns te,le randomly pop up in the former sentence but not the latter.

The infinitive form of your first examples is "parecerle a alguien algo."
The indirect object pronoun 'le' is used for a third person. The indirect object pronoun 'te' is used for someone you're treating less formally (second person).

The infinitive form of the last sentence you asked about is "opinar de/sobre algo." Note that it doesn't have an indirect object pronoun in its makeup. That is the difference between the two infinitive forms, and that is why your first sentences have an indirect object pronoun and the last one doesn't.

The exact same patterns exist in English.

What does this seem like to you?
Assuming familiar usage, this is the translation:
¿Qué te parece esto?

What do you think about this? (What do you opine about this? | What are your thoughts about this? | What is your opinion about this?)
Assuming familiar usage, this is translated as:
¿Qué opinas de esto?
