A New Kitchen
I (S) am (LV) excited (SC) to see what my new kitchen will look like after it's complete. When we (S) moved (Va) to Pennsylvania (DO), it was hard to find a good house. When we finally found a house, Mom wasn't pleased with the kitchen. There were many things she wasn't pleased with, and I could remember her scolding Dad about these things, and how we could've chosen a better home. The kitchen was the main problem. Several months ago, Mom (S) decided (Va) we should get our house (IO) a new kitchen (DO). The same people who built a new bathroom and bedroom and also fixed up a bathroom were going to make our new kitchen. I (S) can't wait (V)! It is interesting and exciting to watch the workers make our new kitchen, by ripping out our wall, stove, and other things that should be taken away.

(find parts of speech in this, the main clause) (None of the following sentences were done.) When we finally found a house, Mom wasn't pleased with the kitchen. (None of the preceding sentences were done. Hint: commas mean more work!) Several months ago, Mom (S) decided (Va) we should get our house (IO) a new kitchen (DO). (Ask yourself 'what did mom decide?' Whatever it is, that is the direct object.) The same people who built a new bathroom and bedroom and also fixed up a bathroom were going to make (missing something here?) our new kitchen. (No work done here.) I (S) can't wait (V)! We only had to find one sentence for each pattern.
it's worth 5 points 1 point - 10 lines 4 points - each pattern I will fix the mistakes for that S-V-I.O.-D.O. (the sentence with that pattern) I am confused Last edited by Jessica; January 07, 2009 at 07:55 PM. |

You're missing one of the patterns in your narrative, so you'll need to come up with a revised sentence somewhere.

I am? I thought I had all of them. Let me double check...

The one you marked S-V-IO-DO does not contain these parts of speech. Revise that sentence or another.

I can't think of a good S-V-IO-DO sentence that would fit with the topic

Perhaps you can think of a sentence that contains the verb gave, or something like it. This verb requires a direct object (gave WHAT) and an indirect object (to WHOM).

oh ok. that would help a lot. thanks
would this be a good one: Before starting, Chuck gave Mom the pictures (not photos) of what it would look like. Chuck - S gave - V Mom - IO pictures - DO |

Ooh, yes! I like that!
Instead of the parenthetical, describe what the pictures are (or choose more precise wording, like diagrams, blueprints, computer-aided designs, etc.). |
