Question Check mis tareas

Homework #1. Perspectiva Cultural. en el libro Paso A Paso B.

please read and see if my answers are O.K./correct. if not then suggest better answers/correct answers.

__________________________________________________ ____________

Imagine that you're an exchange student living in Caracas, Venezuela. You're staying with a family that has two children: Jaime, who is 13, and Mariana, 16. On your first night there, you sit down with them to watch television and..... surprise! Superman pops up speaking perfect Spanish! What you're watching is the dubbed version of a U.S. TV series.

Although Jaime and Mariana can also watch other dubbed imports from the United States, those programs are the exception. Venezuela has one of the largest television industries in Latin America. It produces soap operas, documentaries, music videos, and children's shows that are shown throught the Spanish-speaking world.

Hispanic teenagers rarely have their own TV set, even if the family can afford it. So at night, Jaime and Mariana sit down with the rest of the family to watch TV in the living room. They often tune in to one of several culebras. The word means "snakes", which is how Venezuelans jokingly refer to their soap operas, because they're long and winding. Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina, and Spain produce many popular soop operas. They usually last only a few months. Then new shows, with new characters and plots, begin.

1. What does it mean if the TV program is dubbed? the dialogues are translated into Spanish

2. What is it like if the show has subtitles?

3. Which Spanish-speaking country has one of the largest TV industries in Latin America? Venezuela

4. List 3 types of shows that it produces. (These are shown thoroughout the Spanish-speaking world) 1) documentaries
2) soap operas
3) children's shows

5. What do we call the type of shows that the Hispanics call "culebras"? Soap operas

6. How long do these shows usually last? a few months

7. Why do you think that is the case?

8. List 3 things that you can learn from watching a Spanish TV show (besides the language). 1) Culture
2) Fashion
3) Foods

2. What is it like if the show has subtitles?
Usually they do not touch the subtitles, are the original ones. (But this is not explained in the text)
6. How long do these shows usually last? a few months
7. Why do you think that is the case? So they can change the plot easily, they do not have to invent rare stories.
Every season its completely new, only a few characters remain. (It`s written here:"They usually last only a few months. Then new shows, with new characters and plots, begin". I the USA, all the stars must continue, and at the end the plots are very confusing. It's normal that a man/woman in every season to fall in love with a different persons, usually another collegue. For two seasons ok, but at the 7th season it's very strange. )
Saludos
