Preterite Vs Imperfect

El ambiente en el concierto era fantástico.
El ambiente en el concierto fue fantástico.

I understand both tenses are correct here, but which is more commonly used?
Would it be the Imperfect because we are 'describing' something in the past?

Many thanks in advance.

The use depends on what the speaker has in mind: either the time during the concert or the experience past.
