Decididamente no es un delito y tampoco lo es el uso creativo de la lengua, pero en un foro de aprendizaje del idioma, hay que aclarar algunas cosas.

In South Gate, friends and family grieved for a girl whose life was cut too short.

...quisiera traducirla de esta manera:
En South Gate, los amigos y familiares lloraron la pérdida de una muchacha cuya vida fue interrumpida demasiado temprano.

aunque no es una traducción directa, también se suele oír
amigos y familiares lloraron la pérdida de una muchacha que nos dejó demasiado pronto
amigos y familiares lloraron la pérdida de una muchacha que partió demasiado pronto

Con la crisis económica alrededor nuestro, 5 cents no los desprecio

Con respecto a la traducción, me parece del tipo 'ambigua', puesto que se puede pensar que la muchacha ha partido para un viaje del tipo 'terrestre' y no que haya muerto tan joven.

Generalmente cuando uno se va de vacaciones no se considera una "pérdida", a no ser que esté jugando para un equipo de football y se vaya a perder el mundial o algo así por estar de vacaciones.
