"ese registro se le quedó cortó"

"ese registro se le quedó cortó"

I saw this in today's paper and wonder if this is correct Spanish.
I think it means "this register(route or choice) limited her/him."

perfect.

well, on second thoughts, se le quedó corto, in my opinion is quite the opposite, meaning that he was much more capable than that.

entonces "quedó cortó" tiene sentido.
Estaba casi seguro que lo correcto es "quedó corto"

"Quedarse corto" es no haber tenido la capacidad suficiente para hacer algo.

"Quedarle corto algo a alguien" es que esa persona tiene mayor capacidad que la requerida.

("Quedarle grande algo a alguien" es que algo requería de mayor capacidad que la que la persona tenía)

Remember that ese registro can mean 'that register (book)/ registration (noting something) / record (what was noted) / entry (what was entered in a register) / search (police search)'. As everyone else noted, more context is needed.
