Received loud and clear. The question is whether I should sit around trying to think up a sentence or get a life.

This is so wrong: I spent so many years trying to learn the uses and meanings of "to get" just to find native speakers find it lazy and inappropriate.

*crazy*

Don't despair, or toss your learning aside. We Americans have a love affair with the word.

The Romanian language doesn't have "get". Almost every use of get, which is "sa faci" in Romanian, translates to hacer in Spanish.

Is part of the process of learning any language.

Do you really think people learning Spanish north of your border get to learn about órale (just to mention 1 word of the thousands) and then tell them they are learning Spanish (to top it off)

Don't despair! The best is yet to come.

But you can still use it when speaking to lazy and inappropriate people. Life is like that - get real
