Ha vivido - Ha estado viviendo

Online-Spanish-Course.com frase del dia fue:

Ha vivido muchos años en el extranjero.
He has been living abroad for many years.

The 3 machine translations from SpanishDict give:
Ha estado viviendo en el extranjero durante muchos años.

I realize the machine translation is more literal.

Wouldn't "Ha vivido" be "He lived" not "He has been living"?

Is "durante muchos años" a common way to say "for many years" or "for a long time"

Thanks, Bob Ritter, Pensacola, FL, USA
