Columpio

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for June 24, 2009

columpio (masculine noun (el)) — swing, swing set. Look up columpio in the dictionary

A mis hijos les gusta jugar en los columpios.
My children like to play on the swings.

A los niños gustan los columpios, y las niñas gustan las muñecitas (muñeca + ita = little doll? ¿O debe decir, 'muñecas pequeñas'?) gracias

A los niños les gustan los columpios y a las niñas les gustan las muñecas.
The diminutive for muñeca is muñequita, but the meaning changes when pluralized (at least in Latin America. I don't know if it is the same in Spain). Muñequitos are cartoon shows.

Ok gracias, ¿tengo una pregunta, ¿por qué usas 'les'?

Originalmente usé 'les' pero yo la borré porque pensé que no es correcto.

les = los niños/las niñas o los columpios/las muñecas pequeñas

gracias

One thing that is complicated for everyone learning Spanish is the verb
gustar and verbs with similar meanings. They take the indirect object.
The subject is alway the things that please.
So, I like books can be translated this way: books are pleasing to me.(me gustan los libros--los libros is the subject of the sentence and me is the
indirect object.

By the way I reviewed what I wrote in my previous post and there was
some bad info: muñequitas are little dolls muñequitos are cartoons

Gracias por el consejo, creo que ya lo entiendo

¿Son mis ejemplos correctos?
(A los niños) les gustan los perros
Les gustan los perros (a los niños)
A ti te gustan los perros
Los niños gustan los perros [necesito poner un pronombre objectivo indirecto (indirect object pronoun) les/la/le/me/te/ect.]

muchas gracias

Pues a mí me gustaban los columpios, no las muñecas

Y no me estoy "columpiando" (esto es una expresión)
