I guess English grammar is a lot easier than Spanish grammar.

Well, I - as a teacher in training - truly believe that you can't 1) TEACH someone a language. You can only teach someone how to learn a language (maybe people disagree with me, but how often have you met a high school student being fluent in Spanish while s/he didn't want to learn it? Only students who want to learn the language and study themselves will reach a high level). 2) grammar isn't essential. Again, you teach someone how to start learning a language, s/he needs to do the rest alone while you can only guide him/her and answer small questions. I think that massive input is the key to fluency, thinking too much about grammar ruins your fluency. Only once you achieved a certain degree of fluency, analyzing grammar is something that'll raise you level.

Again, people may disagree, but I'm talking from my own point of view (i.e. own experiences) and after reading loads of papers on language acquisition (and applying it to my own studies).
