Según si es primero (º) o primera (ª), etc.

1º - 1ª
2º - 2ª
3º - 3ª
etc.

Segundo piso, primera puerta : 2º - 1ª

I love this thread. I could never figure out what these things signified when I saw them written in Spanish. Someone had written 2ª something, and I was SO confused. Now it makes PERFECT sense ... and, YES, it is SO much easier than our English! THANKS!!!

De nuevo vi "1ER" , significa Primer tiempo en un partido de fútbol, pero no entiendo la construcción de él

Just like you do in English, joining the number with the last letters of the word, Bob:

1st - 1er (primer) / 1ro (primero)
2nd - 2do (segundo)
3rd - 3er (tercer) / 3ro (tercero)
