Gateway drug = "gateway" es un modificador o adjetivo (o complemento del nombre) mientras que "drug" es el nombre. Así, en español tiene que ser "droga de entrada"... no al revés...

Estoy de acuerdo con Alec. "De iniciación" es el término más común (de hecho, nunca he oído "de entrada"). En México, hace unos 5 años, se decía que la droga de iniciación entre la gente joven era el éxtasis... no sé en estos días si siga siendo así.

Probablemente lo siga siendo, como "droga blanda" y relativamente barata.
Pero los muchachos conseguían (o consiguen) el éxtasis más o menos fácilmente en restaurantes, bares y discotecas. Se puso de moda muy rápidamente, porque tiene "la ventaja" de que no huele y se vendía en forma de pastillas de colores que pasaban por dulces, así que sus padres no lo detectaban a la primera.
