When to use indirect pronouns and direct pronouns

When to use indirect pronouns and direct pronouns

many times i see in spanish that an in-direct pronoun is used when in english it would be constructed with a direct pronoun, especially when it involves people. Is there any rule that tells you when to use an in-direct pronoun and when to use a direct pronoun?
