¿Cómo se dice en español, "The man told him if he could do it in two days time he would then have to renounce his title and step down from the throne. A deal was struck, what a pity." ?
---
(not sure how to word this last part)

I have a doubt with "the man told him". That can be translated into: "el hombre se dijo" o "el hombre le dijo". Who is "him"? the one who is speaking, I mean, himself? Wouldn't it be "The man told himself"? Thanks.

Bien, voy a revisarlo

facíl

¡Es un buen consejo!

I wasn't sure about this either, I am not wanting it to be reflexive so I assumed it would be

"El hombre le dijo" - the man tells him

But in one of the books I have it says in Spain they substitute the indirect pronoun "le" with "se"

Now I see what can be confusing because it seems reflexive. I wonder if the book was mistaken, or maybe it was they substitute "le" with "se" when there are two pronouns

El hombre se (le) lo dijo
- the man tells it (lo) to him (le/se)

I think you would say in English: "your first language is English", not "was", am I wrong (it could be )?

I think that English books also make difficult some things (and also Spanish books do). The best way for learning is with examples, that's what I think.

I'm not really sure how it would be said, but "your first language was English" seems to flow better, I really never paid any attention in English class or with grammar until I started learning Spanish

"Is your first language Spanish?" Straightforward question requesting information.

Your first language is/was Spanish? You're requesting confirmation of something you already know.

Does that make sense?
