A question of Ser/Estar. . .

1. Conocer refers to meeting/knowing people (the start of knowing = meeting); the focus is on knowing/being acquainted. Encontrar refers to meeting/getting together with people; the focus is on getting together.

2. 'Personal a'. Direct objects that are definite and identified people or personified beings are almost invariably marked with 'personal a'.
