Tengo dificultad con un enunciado

Tengo dificultad con un enunciado

Recien empecé a leer El ruido de las cosas al caer escrito por Juan Gabriel Vásquez. Creo que quizás es un poco difícil para mi, pero voy a intentar leerlo.

Hay un parte de un enunciado que no entiendo:
"El día de su muerte, a comienzos de 1996, Ricardo Laverde había pasado la mañana caminando por las aceras estrechas de La Candelaria, en el centro de Bogotá, entre casas viejas con tejas de barro cocido y placas de mármol que reseñan para nadie momentos históricos, y a eso de la una llegó a los billares de la calle 14, dispuesto a jugar un par de chicos con los clientes habituales."

No entiendo el parte en negritas.

Mi intento:
"The day of his death, early in 1996, Ricardo Laverde spent the morning walking the wide sidewalks of La Candelaria in the center of Bogotá, between old houses with baked clay tiles and marble plaques that identify for no one historical moments and to that from the one he arrived at the billiard hall on Street 14, ready to play two young men with the regular customers."

No me significa nada....................
