Just okay, alright, I've been better
I've just started learning Spanish and wonder how I can answer someone when they ask me ¿Como estás? when I'm just okay, or alright. In Portuguese, a simple answer would be mais ou menos. Is it the same in Spanish? Más o menos?
Thank you |

'Más o menos' is one way. You could also say 'regular' or 'así-así'. There probably are other expressions, too.

"Más o menos" is very common and understood everywhere.
Others: Ni bien, ni mal. Tirando. (in Spain) Ahí vamos. Regular. I would avoid 'así, así'. |

"Así así" is not used in Mexico, for us it's one of those calques from English that we don't like (for a change).
Some semi-colloquial answers a Mexican would give: - Ahí la llevo. (Similar to "Ahí vamos".) - No me quejo. (I don't complain.) - Pues, podría estar peor. (Well, I could be worse.)

Thank you all for your help!
I guess asi asi is similar to assim assim in Portuguese. I've never seen or heard asi asi in English but just found it in the dictionary. Last edited by brasimericano; February 11, 2014 at 02:58 PM. |
