cajuela - masculine noun (el) - trunk, boot. Look up cajuela in the dictionary

Abre la cajuela para que saque las bolsas.

Lightbulb Rara palabra....

... nunca la he oído nombrar acá en Chile, aunque sí en las traducciones de películas . El término usado es portamaleta.

En Inglés la palabra 'trunk' es la nariz de la elefante. (In English the word 'trunk' is the nose of the elephant. Para le coche la palabra es 'boot'. Open the boot so I can get the bags out!

Bienvenidos a los foros. En Santiago vi que los Andes cubierto por nieve en la tarde se pone rosado. Tambien sentí la brisa fresca de las sierras en la misma ciudad.

Tal como trunk es la palabra inglesa que se usa en las Américas y boot es la que se usa en Inglaterra y Australia, la palabra que puso el robot DailyWord es la que se usa en México. En España, se dice maletero. En otros países hay otra palabras para la misma cosa.

Dices que la palabra que sabes es portamaleta. También encontré portamaletas, maletera, baúl y portaequipajes.

You say you know the word portamaleta. I also found portamaletas, maletera, baúl and portaequipajes.

I asked some of my friends who are native speakers and this is what they said!


cajuela = car trunk
cajuelita = glove compartment

I think it's cute!

car trunk=baúl
glove compartment=guantera

These are all very regional terms just as they are in English (like bonnet and hood). Today was the first day I ever saw the word cajuela, and obviously it's widely used. It's good to know alternate terms.

To tell you the truth, I think of the word baúl as a plain old trunk not a car trunk.

Yo también, but there are countries where that is their word for el portaequipajes (ou le mot du pays).
