Escuela / Colegio / Instituto
What is the exact difference between these three in Spain:
• La escuela • El colegio • El instituto I know that ‘el instituto’ is only for secondary school, but can the other two refer to both primary and seconday school? Many thanks in advance. |

(Escuela, however can combine into "Escuela de Artes y Oficios" - Arts and Crafts school, and other combinations too) "Instituto", literally "institute" normally refers to "secondary school", "high school".
