Hola!

They didnt want us to go there alone, because it was already late.

or

Neither. a solas is an adjectival phrase meaning alone.

quiero hablar contigo a solas I want to talk to you alone (even if two men)

(Anything I say should be taken with caution and might be corrected by experts )

Oh! so i should take away the "solos" too ? its just that the text goes like that: They didnt want us to go there alone because it was already too late.

So should I ignore the "alone" ?

I would say

I'm not sure the ellos is necessary.

This is actually fine.
The "ellos" is not wrong, although you may or may not use it, depending if you want to specify or stress it.

The order could be switched as I note.
I would not use "a solas" in this context, not sure why, but Moliner defines it like this:

A solas.
