Otra Pregunta del Tiempo (this time, future tense)

Que es preforido:

Usar "voy + (infinitive verb)

O

Usar Futuro tiempo?

Por ejemplo:
Voy tomar la medicina.
I am going to take the medicine.

Tomaré la medicina.
I will take the medicine.

They express ideas that are extremely similar; is one or the other preferred in Spanish?

Edit: I changed the direct object of the sentence; not sure if "tomar la bolsa" really works.
