How could I say the idiom "y así le fue" in English?

It means "all went wrong" or "the outcome was the opposite" or any way to say it. Presumably "así" is an euphemism for something stronger.

Example:

Napoleón creyó que iba a conquistar Rusia en un periquete, y así le fue.

First time I hear that "y así le fue" means the opposite, is that an argentinian thing?

Anyway, here I guess it could be said "and boy... did he get it!"

Can't say that I've heard it before nor that I would deduce that it means the opposite.

Not only argentinian. Spain's usage also:
El gran equipo de fútbol pensó que el partido sería un paseo y así les fue. (esto es acabaron perdiendo....)

Yes, I found examples from Spain, Argentina and Uruguay. The intonation of "y así les fue" is like you are pointing at the consequences, and it's always used to highlight adverse consequences better than opposite ones.

Creyó que iba a ganar millones y así le fue [Es pobre]
Pese a que le advirtieron, zarpó en medio de la tormenta y así le fue [Su barco se fue a pique]
Así le fue por no hacer caso.

Interesante. Como dije, nunca lo había escuchado, y de haberlo hecho debo haber entendido mal. Como en el caso de que alguien creyera que iba a ganar millones, y así le fue, o sea que para mí sí ganó los millones. Tengo un montón de amigos argentinos acá en Las Vegas, en su mayoría rosarinos.

En todo caso me acordé que en Chile nosotros usamos "...y así les fue de bien/mal" para indicar que todo salió como estaba previsto/planeado etc.

Correcto. También se puede decir de un negocio. "Se fue a pique" le fue tan mal que llegó a cerrar el negocio.
