Llegar a mayores

But it's also used to talk about a damage done...

Ayer llovió muy fuerte y el río se desbordó. Afortunadamente no llegó a mayores y sólo la tienda de coches resultó afectada.
It rained heavily yesterday and the river overflooded. Fortunately, there wasn't that much damage done and only the car store was affected.

Juan tuvo un accidente en su coche, pero no llegó a mayores y ya salió del hospital.
Juan had an accident in his car, but it wasn't too bad and he's already out from hospital.
