En chile usamos éstos términos:

Auto de arriendo = rental car
Micro = Bus
Auto = Automobile
Estación de tren(es) = Railroad Station
Vagón de tren = railroad car
motoneta = moped



Los terminos generales de transporte



Carnet de conducir - the drivers license
Las llaves - the keys (I don't know why it's plural even if the car keys is only one) :-)
El mapa de caminos - the road map
tanque de bencina - the tank of gas
El seguro - the insurance
El sistema de navegación GPS - the GPS (navigation device)

Unas pocas frases de transporte



Por favor, lléveme a esta dirección - Take me to this address please
Por favor, lléveme a un hotel cerce de ... - Take me to a hotel near ... please
¿Por cuánto me lleva a ésta dirección - For How much do you take me to this address?
¿Cuándo sale el próximo autobús (metro / tranvía)? - When is the next bus (subway car / tram) leaving?
¿Cuándo sale el último metro? - When does the last bus leave?
Por favor, recójame a las ocho - Please pick me up at eight
¿Cuál es el mejor camino para llegar a ese hotel? - What is the best route to that hotel?

Los verbos de transporte



Manejar / conducir - to drive
Llevar - to take
Viajar - to travel

The ones in red, is how I translate them from English<>Spanish

To me to bring = traer

To take = tomar o llevar

It is known that some people from Mexico and Central America use (or misuse?) traer and llevar.

For some reason our Spanish teacher taught us that we could use "el carro" for car. Is that, for lack of a better phrase, frowned upon or incorrect?
