Hola!
No pude resistir y me registré!

Sorry for the disappointment.

Imagínense entrando a un supermercado para preguntar: 'Do you have piles?'

Dear me!
I know for a fact Ask.com will accept to say just about anything.
"In a shop in Spain I asked for a batería for my hearing aid. The assistant had a laugh and then advised that I should find una pila."

Well my friend ... "In a shop in Spain ... a local inhabitant walks into a jewelry store to buy a large $5.00 alarm clock, and asks the salesman for the little SWATCH wristwatch as a gift."

@ ookami

"Nowadays, there are baterias that are really small, even near pila's size, so I wouldn't say that pilas are the little ones and baterias the bigger ones. "
You're spoiling BobRitter's fun.

Dear ookami

Your English is good, and as Mark Twain would say:
"I have no respect for a man who can spell a word only one way."
... or
"Anyone who can only think of one way to spell a word obviously lacks imagination." ... or something to that effect.

baterry, battery
