The English word fire is used in a lot of ways, so you should expect to see other Spanish words.
You should use incendio to describe a large, destructive fire. This includes building and house fires. When something is on fire, it's en llamas or it's ardiendo. To fire at is disparar. The fire that burns in your hearth, or in your heart (passion), is fuego. A larger fire, like a bonfire, is hoguera. A fireside is hogar. If you perform poorly at work, your boss will despedirte or echarte. If you're fired up, you're animado. |
