Trabajaba/trabajé

Hoy decidí a mejorar mi saber de las formas pasadas.
Tomé un quiz en studyspanish.com
No puedo entender muy bien por qué están equivocados las dos frases más abajo.

El website da la siguiente razón para ambos: el pretérito se usa cuando una acción en el pasado tiene un principio y un fin definitivo.

18. María worked in a restaurant. (for a period of time)
María trabajaba en un restaurante.
Me parece que esta frase describe algo que estaba ongoing. Sin más información, ¿no se puede contestar con pretérito O imperfecto?

19. Juan worked in the hospital for six months.
Juan trabajó en el hospital seis meses
¿Cómo es que "seis meses" no es principio y fin definitivo?

It's true that the sentence could be right with either conjugation if there is no context, but you were told: "For a period of time", so the hint was already given.
·Cuando María salió de la escuela, trabajó en un restorán. (Maybe until she found another job.) -> For a period of time.
·María estudiaba en la universidad y trabajaba en un restaurante al mismo tiempo. -> This is ongoing.


#19 is definitely "trabajó", as "principio y fin" are given by the six months period.

Ok I see. "For a period of time" just seems a lot more vague period of time versus six months, but I get the idea. Thank you!

Suena fatal. Debería ser "Hoy decidí ("a" sobra) mejorar mis conocimientos (en vez de saber y en plural) de las formas (verbales) del pasado (no están pasadas, mas bien todo lo contrario: son actuales)".

También podría ser:

Hoy me decidí a mejorar mis conocimientos de las formas verbales del pasado.

Deduzco que: decidir + infinitivo; decidirse + a + infinitivo.
