Hi Sugar1, and welcome.

I imagine you already speak Spanish well, but you're just uncomfortable using it because you don't use it every day, and you don't have all the same vocab as your relatives in S.A. What I would recommend is that you try to use your Spanish every day. Watch TV in Spanish, get some friends who speak Spanish and use it. That will help you feel much more comfortable, and when you're in South America with your fam. don't be uptight, just try to pick up as much as you can and you'll be fine.

Red face Teach Yourself....

I am currently using the Rosetta Stone language learning program. I paid $160 for a 6-month online subscription. I can access Levels 1, 2 and 3 as much as I want. They claim when I complete Level 3, I will be fluent in Spanish. I completed Level 1 in about a month.

I have taken Spanish classes before in elementary school, junior high, and a community college. I don't know if it's my level of interest now (I'm very excited about this), or if the software is really working, but I am retaining more of the words I learn than I ever have before. I'm recognizing words rather than just knowing what they mean because of the sign they're on (like wet floor on an orange cone). I'm translating words in my head, and I even had a dream in Spanish once!

I have been very impressed with this software package so far. If you can afford it, and will be disciplined enough, I would highly recommend you get this. The only catch is that it automatically renews in 6 months. So if you don't want to renew, you will need to cancel before the time is up. I hope this was helpful.

Good luck!
Brenda

Cool My Spanish Dream

To be honest, I don't remember it. I don't remember what was going on, who was in it, or even what was said. All I remember was saying something in Spanish. It was just a single sentence. But it was still pretty cool.
