La mayoría de los padres de mis estudiantes hablan Español solamente. Es muy importante por mi trabajo. También creo que es bueno saber otro idioma.

También es una diversión.

This is exactly the same for me. I think it's a bit pathetic how so many people in loads of other countries are bilingual and yet in England we only speak English, I don't know any English people who can speak another language.

On my return I began to follow the BBC's imaginatively named radio course "Starting Spanish". I got on well with this, it was a good course.

The next year we went to the Costa Blanca and I was pleased how well I managed with my fairly limited Spanish. So I continued studying.

The following couple of years we went to Sitges near Barcelona and I couldn't understand a word in spite of my advancing studies! Then on my third visit I learned they weren't speaking Spanish at all, but Catalán!

On a later visit to Sitges I was on the beach and met a charming señorita, and two years later we were married and soon after we had a daughter who herself lived for fourteen years in Spain.

She is now back in the UK and has just made us grandparents.

AND ALL BECAUSE OF AN OFF-THE-CUFF REMARK IN A SPANISH HOTEL FORTY-TWO YEARS AGO!
Great story, thanks for sharing. How good would you say your Spanish is now? Fluent?

Cuando era más pequeña, tenía un profesor de Colombia que era la persona más sincera y amable que conocí (hasta hoy ). Empecé con los estudios para encontrar personas parecidas

I'm trying to learn Spanish because I've always wanted to learn another language and Spanish is practical, it is more likely to open job opportunities. The experience of trying to learn Spanish has been both exhilarating and frustrating.

It was a toss up between Spanish and Italian for me. I took Spanish though because i love Afro-Cuban music.

I live in Texas. Im a collage student and I had a choice between art appreciation and spanish. One of those is actually useful in Texas. It seems like one semester probably wont be enough though...
