El modismo penny wise frecuentamente seguido por pound foolish significa
una persona que hace caso de las cosas pequeñas tanto que pierde vista
de las cosas más importantes y grandes.

Literadamente tan preocupado por gastos pequeños que pierde mucho
por gastos grandes.

¿Existe un modismo in español con el mismo significado?

No creo conocer una frase equivalente en español.

Yo diría de alguien que se fija tanto en los detalles que no ve lo importante.
O en cuestiones de dinero, que cuenta los centavos, pero se le van los pesos.

Can't see the wood for the trees es una otra frase que significa lo mismo en inglés

On this side of the Atlantic we say can't see the forest for the trees.
Yes you are right. They mean about the same thing. To me, penny wise
seems even worse though.
I am surprized that there isn't an easy term for this common and sometimes evil human folly in Spanish.
