¿Esto significa que algo peor (que lo presente) ha sucedido? En otras palabras, que lo que está sucediendo no es tan mal porque peores situaciones han acontecido.

se usa en casos como, alguien que nos gusta y no nos hace caso, entonces dices torrres más altas han caído, como diciendo que es posible que algún día te haga caso.

Una traducción más literal (even the tallest towers have fallen)

Even the mighty (often) fall

Anything is possible
Nothing is industructible
Nothing is impossible
Anything can happen

No sé un dicho que tiene ese significado.

(hay una comercial aquí en la cual se dice, "impossible is nothing" [creo que es de adidas]

También se suele aplicar a personas que han llegado a puestos importantes (social, política o económicamente hablando) y después se ha descubierto algún asunto turbio (o cualquier otro acontecimiento) y su popularidad ha bajado en picado.
