I would say 'to be an old hand' or 'to be very accomplished' or 'to have a lot of presence' are good equivalents.
Robin Williams is a very accomplished actor. He has a lot of presence (he has a lot of poise, articulates with ease, and is self-assured). He's an old hand when it comes to improvisation. |

What do Tablas mean in this context? I cannot see any connection with experience

@Brute: it comes from the theater. When you have been on many stages (for a long time made of "tablas") you've been accumulating experience.
