Tres es multitud.
To translate gooseberry or fifth wheel in Spanish we use carabina or velón

Hay sólo cuatro llantas en un coche, decir "I´m the fifth wheel" significa "I´m feeling left out / Don´t belong" es muy parecido a la tercera persona en el dicho "three is a crowd"
