Oral vs bucal

Tom Lehrer, un cantautor humorista, dice que "Dental floss was invented by a remote tribe in the Andes, who passed the secret down from father to son as part of their oral tradition."

Es un juego de palabras entre oral (transmitido por hablar y escuchar, así que oral tradition es una frase hecha) y oral (relacionado con la boca - hilo dental). Sospecho que no funciona en traducción porque el segundo sería bucal. ¿Tengo la razón?
