Spanish speaking Grandma meets her non Spanish speaking grandson
Hi guys, my name is David, but lots of my friends call me John and that i really don't know why. I need some help with my grandma. She's a Spanish descent and can only speak Spanish, though she understands our native language which is Filipino she really prefers to speak Spanish. Problem is i'm the non-Spanish speaker grandson.
I need some help on where I can get some great resources on how to learn just some basic Spanish so that one way or another I can at least interact with my grandma without the translations of my cousins. I don't know if i can discuss it here, I hope im in the right category. Im new here please bear with me. |

There are lots of resources. Learning to communicate well in Spanish will take many months, if not years, so give yourself plenty of time.
Start by learning vocabulary. cousin = (el) primo | (la) prima cousins = (los) primos | (las) primas my cousin = mi primo | mi prima my cousins = mis primos | mis primas (if all are female) grandfather = (el) abuelo grandmother = (la) abuela Learn how to ask what something means. ¿Qué significa __________? ¿Qué quiere decir _________? Learn how to ask what something is. ¿Qué es eso | esto? Learn basic greetings and phrases. Kumusta po kayo? = ¿Cómo está (usted)? Kumusta ka? = ¿Cómo estás? Mabuti naman. = Estoy bien. ¿Cuántos años tienes? = How old are you? Tengo quince años. = I'm fifteen. ¿Qué te gusta hacer? = What do you like to do? Me gusta jugar fútbol, videojuegos, .... = I like to play soccer, video games, .... Me gusta ver películas. = I like to watch movies. Think of other phrases she might ask you in Spanish and learn how to answer those questions. |

Thanks
Rusty thanks for the tips, really appreciate it. I am learning a bit of Spanish right now. I guess I have to do my homework and learn a bit more, a lot more. Thanks again.
