I don't speak when I have flat shoes. OK - what does it actually mean? Aguirre

I am not sure, but to me there would be ways to take this:

1.- When I wear (choose any color) tie (could be a shirt or whatever you come up with), I do not speak (refuse to speak)

2.- When I wear flat shoes, they are rigid, it takes all of my attention so that I do not fall, hence I am not going to speak.

BTW, I have never heard that phrase before.

So, it is my first option.

Probably Vulgar Latin *refusare from Latin refusus, past participle of refundere, to pour back, from fundere to pour (cf. fundir)
