In the US it's to wait in line.
In New York it's to wait on line.
In Great Britain and ,to a lesser extent , the rest of the English-speaking
world, the verb is to queue pronounce just a the letter 'Q' is pronounced.

Here's what I would say:

Póngase a la cola = Get in line.
se ha saltado usted la cola = You have cut in line.
había una cola terrible = There was a really long line.
la cola del cine no tenía final = The line at the movies was endless.

En el militario se usa. ejemplo: Get in file
En forma imperative una person recogiendo boletas puede decir: Single file only and have your ticket ready.

En realidad parece queue ,pero no el signficado es diferente.
