Dar vueltas al asunto = To fail to get something out of your head | To turn something over and over in your mind
Terminar cazando moscas = To end up wasting time

I suggest the following translation for your expression:
Getting all bent out of shape over it is just a waste of time.

No. We say we're going out of our mind or we're going crazy. We don't have a saying about catching flies that means the same thing.
