Translate a letter

Hello Everyone
I Hope you all don't think I am rude, but I have joined the forum as I am needing a letter translated.
My uncle died a few weeks ago at 92. He never married but said the love of his life was a spanish lady he had met years ago, they had a relationship but he refused to marry her as "he had too many curtains to shut" a reference to the fact many people would have something to say about it. I found her address and wrote to her informing her of his death as i felt she had the right to know. I have tried translating the letter myself online but i cannot understand all of it as i am not the best when it comes to hand writing. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thank you

Here's a rough translation:

Malaga, 6 May 2011

Dear Mr. Andrews.

Thank you for having taken the trouble to inform me about Tom's death. I feel his death a lot, as we met 45 years ago and his death has affected me a lot.

At Christmastime I sent him a Christmas card, and he possibly was doing very poorly already as he did not send me his card, which seemed strange to me.

Life is what it is, and Tom was elderly. He had a long life and he had been happy, had enjoyed a lot. Tom was a person who loved life; he was very alive.

Your Spanish is excellent, and I understand it very well.

Thank you again,

An affectionate salute (= Sincerely)

Natividad Sancho
