poli will become famous soon enoughpoli will become famous soon enough
Catalán translates to Castillian fairly easily to me (much easier than Portuguese or Italian). I imagine that xano relates to the word sano.
I'm sorry you don't have the opportunity to use Catalan in California.

Sí, vol dir anar a poc a poc, però no tinc ni idea d'on ve

Well, I checked this around a little bit and found it comes from Italian "piano, piano", believe it or not. And interestingly enough we have it in Castilian too... (as covered in DRAE)
chano chano Lentamente, paso a paso. (¡Mira por dónde!)

(And well, I see now I have an opportunity to practice it, even in this place of planet Earth! )

Well, I think you are right... "Piano, piano, si va lontano"... was the motto of the Italian Marco Polo, he went to China, he got the spaghetti, and came back xino, xano... (Don't believe a word of what I said!) (Traduttore, tradittore!)

But it is similar or at least related to the French saying, "petit à petit, l'oiseaux fait son nid" (or the Spanish "poco a poco hila la vieja el copo") Or even the verses by A. Machado, "despacito y buena letra, el hacer las cosas bien importa más que el hacerlas", or the old saw, "vísteme despacio, que tengo prisa".
