yes for dad, for mom it's jefa, but it's vulgar.
You can say "Hey, jefe, dame dinero para salir"
but it's like "Hey you boss, gimme some bucks (for going out)" to your father.

dad=supervisor=boss
Only for teenager who are at an awkward age
Saludos

Question Jefe/Jefa

Hey WMX.....

Jefe...... I wouldn't say it is vulgar. It is widely used in the US by Mexican-Americans and I don't think they use it to be disrespectful. It is just "another one of those things" that are spoken but misunderstood by many.

And as Sosia says.....they also use Jefa for Mom.

Elaina's right.
But here in Spain, it's not so wide used.

OK I just wanted to know I wasn't hearing wrong.

So is saying jefe vulgar or is it informal? 'Cause there's a lot of difference between the two.

In Spain, for dad and mom it doesn't sound very good. Perhaps for an older/experienced person, wich you know (not an stranger)
But as Elaina says, there (in the US) it's much more common. She must says if it's informal.

saludos

Hola!!

Ya estoy de regreso.....

JEFE - JEFA

Se usa muy informalmente.....claro que hay ese uso para indicar Boss = Jefe/Jefa pero creo que preguntabas especificamente hacia los padres. Si se usa, no es vulgar y tampoco es malo.

Ciao
Elaina

In South America nobody use "jefe" or "jefa" instead of father and mother.
I am not sure about Central America, but I think it is common only in Mexico.
