To take place

Are my options below correct?

I hope it takes place soon:
• Espero que tenga lugar pronto.
• Deseo que empiece en seguida.
• Tengo ganas de que empiece enseguida.
• Quiero que comience inmediatamente.
• Me gustaría que empezara de inmediato.
• Ojalá tenga lugar ya.
• Ojalá que comience prontito.

Many thanks.

Exacto: espero que ocurra pronto.

Tener lugar is used with events and it's slightly formal. Basically it's

¿dónde es? = ¿dónde tiene lugar?

I don't have "to take place" associated with "to start" as two examples suggest.

"To hope" doesn't translate into gustar, querer or tener ganas.

Ocurrir o suceder both work.

That's a good one Tomísimo. I haven't heard it before, and I will try to add it to my memory bank. I will pass it by a Caribbean Spanish speaker to see if he uses the term.

True Poli. But in this case, "pasar" introduces an ambiguity in the meaning, since we also use it for something that is over; so if you say "espero que pase pronto", most people would believe you're expecting something to end soon (like "I hope it passes quickly"). That's why "ocurrir", "suceder", "acontecer" (much more formal), are better choices.
