Sondeo

sondeo (masculine noun (el)) — sounding, probing, exploring, poll, inquiry, boring, drilling, investigation, feeler. Look up sondeo in the dictionary

Antes de poner un negocio, debes hacer un sondeo para saber si vas a tener éxito.
Before starting a business, you should test the market to see if you'll be successful.

What part of the sample sentence in Spanish implies "the market" part in English?

seems the type of "survey", in this case a "market survey", is implicit
given that the thrust is "poner un negocio".

hermit

And it looks like Mr. Bot did not include the word "survey" in its definitions....

Eh, Mr. Bot?

@Lou Ann: word by word, it should have been "un sondeo de mercado" but as hermit said, "de mercado" is already implicit by "poner un negocio".

So, laepelba,

You still not see the implicance of getting in business and doing a market survey before putting up the shack?
