Hola a todos,

La frase en cuestión es del libro Cuenta contigo de Patricia Ramírez Loeffler.

Los que te complican la vida solo por fastidiar

Hay personas que sufren con tu felicidad, con tu serenidad y con que disfrutes de la vida. Por algún motivo, están amargados y necesitan que todos sientan lo mismo. Esta tribu la representan compañeros de trabajo y, sobre todo, algunos ex....

Consejo: no entres en su dinámica. Están deseando verte como un energúmeno. La mejor arma es la indiferencia. La indiferencia hasta un punto, porque no puede llevarte a perder derechos y hacer concesiones con tal de no oírlos. Expresa tus ideas y pon límites, les guste o no. Siempre de forma amable y asertiva. Y trata de dejar las cosas por escrito, mandando un correo o un wasap, así quedará todo registrado.

I must say the above sentence doesn't make much sense (maybe because I don't understand something about its grammar structure).

In order not to hear them (con tal de no oírlos) you can make concessions but you should not make too many concessions because you can lose your rights. This seems logical and reasonable to me.

But what does indifference (La indiferencia hasta un punto, porque no puede) have to do with it? Making concessions can lead you to losing your rights, not indifference. So the point the author is making isn't clear to me at all.

I believe she's saying that indifference, up to a point, is your best weapon. If you're indifferent, you won't make concessions in the first place (which you may be tempted to make so as not to hear those («con tal de no oírlos») who don't like your happiness, serenity, and your enjoyment of life).
