Is THE optional?
-The first Book Club recommendation for (the) spring term comes from Professor Donald. Find John and Kevin at communal dinner throughout (the) term to discuss it and learn more about (the) EC Book Club. (EC=Exeter College) |

In the first case (the spring course), the is optional. In all the following cases the should be used at least in American English. I am not sure if there are specific rules as to why it's optional or not in these cases.
The same goes for Spanish, by the way. It's hard for learners to get it right all the time.
