Cuando alguien está muy enfermo, los médicos nos aconsejan nos hagamos a la idea de que esa persona se va a ir. Como se diría en ese contexto hacerse a la idea?

in english that is "to get used to the idea", or "to come to accept the idea", among other possibilities.
