Question about questions

Which is correct?

Es rojo la flor?
Es la flor rojo?

I've seen both, but my spanish book which is titled "All spanish method" uses the first exclusively. I've found this to be an issue but my spanish teacher doesn't seem to understand the question. She states that only the second is correct and this confuses me. I'd appreciate any responses.

Both are correct. In Spanish, there is no fixed word order; but preferences according to the context.

We use the first sentence when one wants to know whether a flower is red. However, if we ask about a known flower (is this the red flower?), we would utilize the second one.

A pleasure.
