To tip (as in tip off)

Means to supply some insider information or a bit of information from someone with experience.

I came across the word chivatazo. Is that the best term for this kind of tip?

There is also soplo:
B (familiar) (chivatazo): ¿quién le dio el soplo al profesor? who went and told the teacher?, who blabbed to the teacher? (familiar); alguien dio el soplo a la policía someone tipped off the police o gave the police a tip-off (familiar); me dieron un soplo para la carrera they gave me a hot tip for the race (familiar)
